Do you have notification anxiety?
Notification anxiety is the reason why many people are leaving their phone on Do Not Disturb 24/7. Are you one of them?
Does this sound bother you?
Do you hear it all day long or have you silenced these dings?
If you have, you’re not alone. Notification anxiety is the reason why many people are leaving their phone on Do Not Disturb 24/7.
In a now deleted post viewed more than 5 million times, political Strategist Max Burns tweeted “TIL that some Gen Z kids keep their cell phones on Do Not Disturb 24/7, so they never have to face the anxiety of answering the phone.”
He told Buzzfeed that two of his Gen Z co-workers do this to avoid the anxiety of an unexpected phone call.
Hundreds of people weighed in that they also do this – and not just Gen Zers, but millennials, Gen X and even boomers.
Research from CommBank in Australia showed that 90% of Gen Z are anxious about speaking on the phone.
Some said it was to avoid getting notifications from scam and fraud calls, one individual explained that they didn’t want to be “plugged in” 24/7, and others claimed it was rude to engage in an unannounced phone call.
What do you think? How often do you turn on Do Not Disturb?
