From brats to coconuts - Kamala memes explained

Have you been seeing Kamala memes everywhere, or did you just fall out of a coconut tree? Here’s how the VP is Connecting with Gen Z through memes. 🥥🌴

Have you been seeing Kamala memes everywhere, or did you just fall out of a coconut tree?

If you’re still confused by the coconuts, venn diagrams and brat references, we’ve got you covered.

Let’s start with Brat. The same day Biden paved the way for Kamala Harris, pop star charlie xcx tweeted “kamala IS brat,” referencing her hit song, which embodies a bold and edgy attitude.

The tweet went viral and the newly branded Harris campaign didn’t skip a beat, updating its X banner to match the Shrek-green of Charli’s album cover.

Now Harris is embracing the Brat meme’s playful tone with a sassy and confident vibe.

Then there is the Coconut - a reference to a slightly awkward, much-memed speech last year where Harris recalled a phrase used by her mother.

What began as criticism is now being embraced by her supporters like Sen. Brian Schatz and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, posting coconut-themed content in support of Harris.

And we can’t forget Harris’s fondness for Venn diagrams, which she mentioned during a 2022 event.

After being mocked about by the Republican National Committee, Harris’s campaign is using Venn diagrams to illustrate their policy goals.

It’s all part of a strategic move by Harris to connect with younger voters - making politics feel more relatable and less intimidating.

What’s your take? Is embracing memes a smart move or is a gimmick? Let us know.
