Is this 20-year-old golfer the next Tiger Woods?
20-year-old Rose Zhang is making history as a golf prodigy while balancing a high GPA at Stanford University.
20-year-old Rose Zhang’s golf coach calls her “the Mozart and Van Gogh of golf,” saying she’s a prodigy whose genius for the game can’t be taught.
The college junior already has beaten Tiger’s college tournament record at Stanford, was the most decorated female amateur in golf history and was the first woman in more than 70 years to win her pro golf debut. And when she did, she said she was surprised and still has a lot to learn.
Rose says she’s a chill person but credits her competitive spirit to being on top. When she was an amateur golfer, she kept her two dozen gold medals but threw away the silver ones - because nobody cares about second place.
She’s already made over a million dollars golfing, but unlike Tiger Woods, she has no intention of dropping out of college due to her success and her 3.87 GPA at Stanford. She says there is value working toward her communications degree and feels a college experience would help her feel grounded, appreciate who she was away from golf and avoid the burnout that often comes with competing at an elite level.
Rose is sponsored by Adidis, Callaway, Delta and Rolex. She knows balance school and professional golf will be tricky, but has seen other female golfers like Michelle Wie do it, so says “why can’t I?”
