MrBeast and Tom Hanks vs. deepfakes
Celebrities are having their likeness stolen amid the SAG-AFTRA union strike where AI protections are at the center of their demands.
Were you one of the 10,000 lucky people that won an iPhone 15 from MrBeast?
Not likely. Take a look at this deep fake video of what seems like the YouTuber promoting an iPhone scam.
The YouTuber posted the video on his X account cautioning his followers and asking the question...are we ready for a world of AI deepfakes?
Tom Hanks' likeness was also used in a recent deepfake. He posted a photo on Instagram saying he has “nothing to do” with an alleged video circulating the internet of an AI version of himself promoting a dental plan.
Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda is also speaking out, saying AI recreations of her late Dad and others are “disturbing,” calling them a “horrendous Frankenstein monster.”
Filmmaker Tim Burton also called out AI, saying it’s like a robot taking your humanity and your soul.
These celebrities are on the front lines of a war between humans and robots - which is at the heart of a fight between Hollywood actors and film studios.
The Screen Actors Guild is still on strike and in negotiations with studios on a deal – with artificial intelligence protection at the center of their demands.
These concerns are also impacting video game actors. In August, a voice actor known for Call of Duty says his face appeared in entirely different characters in the game without his consent or any compensation.
SAG-AFTRA authorized a strike against video game studios as well. Initial negotiations ended without an agreement, but they haven’t hit the picket lines yet as they still hope to reach a deal.
