No, this body butter doesn't attract spiders
A one-star review on Sephora claims Sol de Janeiro’s latest body butter attracts spiders. We debunk the allegation.
Does beauty brand Sol de Janeiro's body butter smell so good that even spiders want a piece of it?
Sephora recently started selling this scented body butter, and it's been a hit, with an impressive 4.5-star rating. However, a one-star review caught everyone's attention when the reviewer claimed that wolf spiders were inexplicably drawn to the body butter.
“If you're scared of wolf spiders — watch out for these lotions lol… when I put it on one will instantly come out… I stopped using it and haven't seen one since.... oh and one time, the spider wanted to eat whatever ingredient it is so bad that it chased me. I swear on everything. I'd run left, it ran left, I ran right, it ran right. Like it was legit following the scent.”
Sol de Janeiro took to Instagram to deny the claim and experts say the likelihood of the body butter containing specific compounds to attract spiders is highly improbable. More likely, they said, it’s winter… and wolf spiders may be seeking warmth indoors.
While people are still having fun in the reviews mentioning spiders, it seems this urban legend has been debunked, so you can use the body butter without attracting the creepy crawlers. Have you tried this body butter? Let us know.
