Three things you may have missed at the Oscars
From Barbie stars’ dresses to red lapel pins, here are a few things with deeper meaning you may have missed at the Oscars
Ryan Gosling may have stolen the show with his I’m Just Ken performance, but did you know there may have been a secret meaning behind Barbie stars’ dresses?
Instead of Margot Robbie donning Barbie pink, it was America Ferrera’s time to shine in bright pink as she was nominated for best supporting actress. But Robbie and Ferrera dresses were both made of a chain mail-like material. And Director Greta Gerwig’s crystal mesh dress also resembled armor - fitting for the movie’s message of female empowerment.
Did you notice those red lapel pins Billie Eilish, Finneus, Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youssef, Ava Duvernay and others wore on the red carpet? They call for a ceasefire in the Israel Hamas War.
And the ‘In Memoriam’ segment began not with an actor but a clip from Alexis Navalny - the Russian opposition leader who died in a prison last month. Followed by a quote on the screen - “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing” A documentary about him won an Oscar last year.
