Why isn't RFK Jr.'s own family endorsing him for president?
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is running for president as an independent candidate. So why is his family endorsing Joe Biden?
“We want to make crystal clear our feelings that the best way forward for America is to reelect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for four more years,” said Kerry Kennedy, sister of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., at a Biden Campaign Rally in Philadelphia in April.
RFK Jr. has been on thin ice with the rest of his family since his super PAC ran a super bowl ad comparing him to his late uncle, John F. Kennedy, using elements from JFK’s very own presidential campaign.
But let’s face it – Robert Kennedy, Jr. is no JFK. This Kennedy may support raising the federal minimum wage to $15, but he is also outspoken against vaccines, criticizing covid restrictions and pushing the debunked claim that vaccines can cause Autism. He has also said he would support a federal abortion ban after three months of pregnancy, but later walked those comments back.
And as life long ring bearers of the Democratic party, the Kennedy’s are worried RFK’s bid will hurt president Joe Biden’s re-election campaign.
“There's plenty of people I love that I don't think should be president of the United States. He happens to be one of them,” RFK Jr.’s nephew, former Rep. Joe Kennedy III, said on GBH News.
But RFK did not seem to be all that mad about the Biden endorsement, posting to X that the family is, quote: “divided in our opinions but united in our love for each other.”
