Would you ride a plane fueled by corn?
Virgin Atlantic landed its first flight traveling from London to New York using an aircraft filled with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The sustainable fuel was a mixture of waste fats and corn production waste from the US.
Critics say the flight is just a media gimmick but Virgin Atlantic CEO Richard Branson, who was the inaugural flight fueled by SAF, said the flight “shows that sustainable jet fuel can be used as a drop-in replacement for jet fuel – and it is the only viable solution for decarbonizing long-haul flights.”
